Testimonials

Nat embodies the very best parts of Maylands and its people; passion, genuinity and diversity. Nat is a champion for inclusivity and a voice for the unheard and underprivileged, a wonderful supporter of small business but also a terrific businessperson. In my opinion, Nat owns and runs the most important business in our precinct, Rabble Books & Games. Its arrival was transformative for Maylands town centre and a coup for its community. Rabble has been a resource, a forum and a haven. It has brought pride, profile and a pulse. Five years on, they are Maylands' qualities too; qualities that will thrive with fresh leadership and perspective. Maylands craves someone who will challenge it but also fight for it. Natalie is that person and I wholeheartedly and excitedly support Nat’s nomination for Councillor.

Nat Latter has become a valuable part of the Maylands community and has made many contributions both locally and in the wider community. I have enjoyed getting to know and working with Nat through the Maylands Business Association and the town team, Creative Maylands. Nat is considerate, thoughtful and is great at holding space, being curious and asking meaningful questions. Nat has also managed a number of complex issues and is able to have difficult conversations in a respectful way. The list of amazing projects and the way they run their business to create a better world is inspiring. I know Nat will bring all of this plus more to the role of Councillor.

Nat is one of the kindest and most generous humans I have had the pleasure of knowing. They are a fiercely intelligent strategist that lives and breathes inclusion, working tirelessly to elevate community voices. Their business, Rabble Books & Games, is an iconic local bookshop that places diverse stories from the margins front and centre. These values permeate all that they do in the community - I have personally experienced it in their LGBTIQA+ advocacy work. Their passionate approach to this work is thoughtful and considered, but above all collaborative. I have no doubt that Maylands / Mt Lawley will benefit from Nat's integrity and leadership as a local Councillor.

Nat is a truly special human and such an important asset to the Maylands community. Since meeting Nat, as a fellow parent at Maylands Peninsula Primary School, I have witnessed their commitment and countless hours they have given as an advocate for social justice and equality. Their ability to genuinely connect with people, hear their stories and question the status quo makes Nat engaged and responsive to local issues. Nat's exceptional leadership qualities, a vast knowledge of social, political and environmental issues as well as a genuine desire to be a part of the solution is inspiring. I have no doubt that as a Councillor, Nat will improve the lives of many people in our community.

Nat Latter is an exemplary community builder with a proven record of inclusion and respectful engagement with a broad range of communities in and around the Maylands area. Nat’s exceptional courage and thoughtful leadership is what is missing from local politics where people talk the talk but often fail to walk the walk. Instead of speaking for sections of the community often overlooked by political representatives, Nat amplifies their voices centring their lived experiences. Nat is such a passionate, community minded and courageous individual and a much needed fresh contemporary voice in local government.

In the five years that I have known Nat, I have watched them work tirelessly and fearlessly to build a business that has enhanced the best qualities of our beautiful neighbourhood - friendliness, inclusivity and that unique vibrancy we are so proud of. I have also witnessed the effort put into improving and supporting aspects of Maylands life that we all know and love - including our Roxy Lane garden, the local business association and community events.

I cannot think of a better candidate than Nat to ensure that our voices are heard and our needs firmly and fairly advicated for. How lucky we would be to have their spirit and leadership continue to uplift our community by serving it at the Council level.

I am delighted that Natalie is stepping up as a potential candidate for the South Ward. I cannot imagine anyone more suitable. With a background in public policy, commitment to community development and involvement in community and business groups, Nat will hit the ground running as a new Councillor. Add to that their gutsy co-establishment of that rarest of local resources - our very own independent bookshop - which places Nat, available in the heart of the community that they cherish, on a regular basis.
